Q&A with O'Kéra

Here are a few questions I was asked by my professor and my answers.

What are your initial thoughts on the record industry?

I think its failing where its failing and succeeding where its succeeding. Each niche market is onto something different. There is an upsurge of vinyl sales in one area, digital downloads in another, and cds in some places. Its not the same across the board for everyone. Each genre has its own customer demographic and behaviors. So each area is adapting to its consumers demands.

Are your opinions of the record industry different than your opinions of the music industry?

Yes. The area of the industry for which I work is building itself upon the finer details. Its close relationship with its fans and taking to the road. There is no need for a record label in my case. The band can survive on its own with a tight knit circle thats detached from the "record industry" and connected to the "music industry" this is about the music after all. We are focused on our shows, giving a good performance, making meaningful quality items for merch and making the earning its deserved while it earns its stripes. We are working from the bottom up rather then the top down for a sustaining career in this industry.
